I have been getting a lot of support questions regarding activating lately. To be more specific, users are saying that their serial number is invalid when they try to activate the software.
In this post, I am going to detail how to activate your LabVIEW software properly. Using the LabVIEW Installer If you purchased, you most likely only have LabVIEW, or Ultiboard. It’s possible that you have all three. This is important to note because the installer (depending on which one you are given) will often list lots of different software that you may not actually have a serial number for. This is usually the source of the “Invalid Serial Number” error. For example, if you put in your LabView serial number where it asks you for the NI SignalExpress serial number, then you will receive an error. This is because your serial number is only good for LabVIEW, not SignalExpress.
Once the software is actually installed on your computer, you will need to activate it. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth activation.
Go to Start → All Programs → → NI License Manager. This will open up the License Manager for your. This is where you can see all your licensing information.
This is also where you activate your licenses. Under the hierarchy that says “Local Licenses”, find the product that you need to activate and left click on it. Disney animated films. You will see an “Activate” button near the top left of the window. Click on this button. A wizard will pop up with a few options to choose from.
I recommend using the “Automatically Activate Through a Secure Internet Connection” option. Then hit Next.
The next window will show you a list of possible products that you can activate. Again, your serial number is only good for certain products. If you do not know which products, I recommend looking at your purchase order and confirming what it is that you purchased.
Fill out the serial number information for the applicable programs and hit Next. On the next window, you will be asked to login to your NI profile. Go ahead and do so.
If you do not have an account yet, click on the “Create a New User Profile” option and make a new account. Once this is done, click Next and the activation process will begin. Once it’s done, it will let you know if it succeeded or failed. If you have any failures, it is most likely because your serial number does not cover the failed products.
I hope this is helpful. Feel free to leave comments.
According to the following link: You cant activate the evaluation version, you need to first uninstall the evaluation version and then install the complete version. Check the note on the document: 'When you decide to move from the evaluation version to the licensed version, you will need to uninstall the evaluation version first. Then you may install the licensed version. The reason you can't simply activate the evaluation version with a serial number is that there is no notion of License Manager on Mac OS or Linux. Running the installer from purchased media will install the complete version of LabVIEW on the computer, and you will not have to explicitly activate any components.' Hope this helps.
Have a great day!!! Wrote: I got the serial number from the National Instruments website on this page I am a student. Now, who do I contact for a physical media disc? Why don't they allow us to download the full version of LabView for mac on the website? - Because there is no license manager for the Mac. The evalution version is specifically compiled to contain certain limitations in the installed components. Once you install the full version from the media it is fully activated already.
Without license manager there is no possibility to have a donwloadable installer that could be activated with a license code, so if they would post the full installer on the net anybody could install the system without needing to pay. If you use the LabVIEW for Windows version there is no media distribution for the Student Edition other than some packages from Sparkfun and co that contain other goodies such as books or hardware platfoms. You simply start the NI License manager and enter the serial number for your product that you got. If you are on the Mac, your organization (university, school or whatever) should have the necessary media. NI doesn't distribtute media to end users for student licenses.
